Dear St. Louis Area Aggies,
According to
the Association of Former Students, the St. Louis Gateway A&M Club is one of the original Texas A&M alumni clubs. It
was charted on September 1st, 1945, with the purpose of providing all
former Aggies and others who wanted to support Texas A&M a way
of gathering. Today there are nearly 800 Aggie alumni in the St.
Louis and surrounding areas which comprises one of the largest Aggie
Networks
outside of Texas. This presents a valuable and strong resource for
all Aggies to utilize and participate in. However, without adequate
participation and financial support, the Club cannot continue to
operate as defined in its charter.
Therefore, I
would like to invite you to join us as an active member of our local
alumni organization. We, as former
students, all carry
the responsibility of maintaining and promoting the great spirit
and traditions of our university. Our Gateway A&M Club
is a vital link in the worldwide Aggie Network and your participation
and financial
support are critical to the success of it.
As
stated on the Association’s web site, “Much
of the work of The Association of Former Students is done through
the worldwide
network of A&M Clubs. A&M Clubs form the foundation for
many Association programs. A&M Club objectives are essentially
the same as the purposes of The Association: To strengthen and
renew friendship
formed in student days and support the interests of Texas A&M
University.”
One of those objectives that is consistent across
all A&M Clubs
is to provide scholarship funds for deserving local students who are
attending Texas A&M. For some time now, the Gateway A&M Club
has had a goal to raise $40,000 for such a fund. To date, our group
has only been able to fund 50% of this goal. Without your continued
support, the Club will fall short of its goal as well as run the risk
of not being able to organize and host other activities such as Muster.
The Club’s web site (http://aggienet.tamu.edu/stlouisamc/) provides
a valuable source of information including:
• Club membership form, a copy of which
is included with this letter.
• A listing of current Club officers and their email addresses
• Dates and locations of Club activities (i.e. Aggie and local sporting
event gatherings, community service activities, monthly Happy Hour).
Please let me or another officer know if you have any additional activity
suggestions.
• Pictures from previous Club events
• Fundraising information.

In addition, an email list has been created
to provide an easy and efficient method of communicating with other
Gateway A&M Club Aggies.
You can sign up to be a member of this email list by clicking on the
St. Louis Aggie eGroup link available on the Links page of the Club’s
web site. Please note that in order to keep the Club’s costs
to a minimum, the web site and email list will be the primary forms
of communication from the Club.
I want to close by thanking all of you who have
supported the Club’s
efforts throughout the years. I especially want to thank Melissa Kreidel
for organizing this year’s Muster. There is a lot of time and
effort that goes in to planning a Muster and Melissa has done a great
job in planning it yet again. I would like to encourage you to attend
this most sacred and time honored tradition. I would also like to thank
those that have been serving as officers of the Club including Joe
Hilton, Vice President of Finance, Bianca Maldonado, VP Publicity/Community
Affairs, and Mark and Kristen Murray, VP of Activities/Programs. In
addition to the positions of VP of Publicity/Community Affairs and
VP Activities/Programs which will become open within the next several
months, there are several other officer positions that are open including
VP of Membership, VP of High School Relations, VP of Records, and VP
of Fundraising. If you would be interested in holding an officer position,
please let me or one of the other current officers know. The time required
for such positions is minimal and we would greatly appreciate any support
you could provide.
Again, in order for the Club to have a viable future, it requires
your participation and support! I hope that you will join us in 2004.
