2006 Scholarship Auction is a Huge Success!!

The Howard County A&M Club held it’s 7th Annual Scholarship Auction on Saturday, July 22, 2006. More than 85 items were auctioned to raise money to help 14 Howard County Students pursue their academic studies. The expectant crowd was able to bid and obtain many diverse items including autographed sports memorabilia, event tickets, artwork, electronics, and even medical procedures. Some of the more popular items were a bass guitar autographed by ZZ Top, tickets to 2006 A&M Football games, and some local hunting trips.

The night also featured a “silent” auction of many items including an A&M themed blanket, a 30 GB Video IPod, and a hunting chair and stool set.

The audience was also able buy raffle tickets with chances on other prizes.

Hays Stripling, Jr. regaled the gathering with tales of “ Old Army” days, taught the future Aggies some yells, and wound up by donating an Endowed Scholarship.

The night raised more than $40,000 for the scholarship fund, prompting Karen Wingert to comment that amount was “almost equal to $1 for every current student at A&M today”.

Once again the citizens of Howard County have shown themselves to be truly generous, rallying to the cause of helping further the education of A&M students. In the process a great time was had by all.
