****Upcoming Events & Programs****
NEW STUDENT CONFERENCES
Although is it mandatory that all new students attend a New Student Conference, it also makes good sense as it is a one-stop resource for new students to get connected to all aspects of their new home. While parents and families are not required to attend, we encourage them to do so, and have many resources specifically for them. Many preliminary questions might be answered on the New Student Program?s FAQ website: http://newaggie.tamu.edu/NSC_FAQ.htm
OFF-CAMPUS LIVING RESOURCES
Many students in Aggieland live off-campus. If your student is considering this option or simply looking for more information, we have the resources to assist you. Student Life?s office of Adult, Graduate and Off-Campus Student Services (AGOSS) provides numerous resources to assist students in everything including finding an apartment, finding a roommate, understanding lease contracts, bus transportation, renter?s insurance and much more. The annually-updated Off-Campus Survival Manual is a good place to start, and available online. The manual and links to several other off-campus resources can be found at:

RESIDENCE HALLS
Is your student considering living on campus at Texas A&M? To help you get the application process started and let you know how things will progress through the application process, check out the website for prospective students:

EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION AND STUDY ABROAD
Many of our students are studying abroad or working at internships or co-ops this summer as part of their university program. These students are gaining valuable experience while representing Texas A&M University. We are pleased by the opportunities afforded to our students through many programs across the campus and proud of the role your Aggie plays in being an ambassador for Texas A&M. For more information about Experiential Education opportunities visit the Career Center website at http://careercenter.tamu.edu/services/s18.html and more information about Study Abroad can be found at http://studyabroad.tamu.edu/
PARENTAL NOTIFICATION
In the Fall of 1999, Texas A&M University began notifying the parents/guardians of students under the age of 21 that were involved in a violation of Texas A&M University's Student Rules on alcohol. At the same time, parents/guardians of students of all ages were notified of violations of Texas A&M University's Student Rules on illegal and/or controlled substances.
Parental notification letters are typically sent from the Dean of Student Life approximately two weeks after the conclusion of the student conduct proceedings. The specifics of the incident that your student has been involved with are not included with the letter, but the letter does alert you that your student has been involved in a violation of the alcohol and/or illegal/controlled substances policy for Texas A&M University and encourages you to contact your student to discuss the specifics of their incident. ****What to Expect For Parents of First Year Students****
Your student has made it through his/her first year of college! Certainly he/she is very excited about making through. However, the summer months bring lots of time for reflection. Your student may be unhappy with his/her performance the first year of college and worried about your response. Remember to be supportive and allow your student the time to reflect.
Students who returned home for the summer may be worried about what that means for his/her new found independence. Balancing out familial relationships with relationships made at school may be difficult. Your student may have left many friends and/or a significant other in College Station. The distance that comes with summer may put a strain on his/her relationships.
